Cheap iPod: Not Necessarily an Oxymoron
A cheap iPod is relative and a matter of opinion. But as the MP3 wars heat up, we're seeing
lower prices. At under $100 a new 512MB iPod Shuffle is cheap compared to the
$300+ prices for most iPod models.
Nano: Cheaper Full-Featured Version
The newly unveiled iPod Nano may prove to be the most popular ever. Like the
Shuffle it's a flash memory player. But unlike the Shuffle, the Nano shares features
of its more expensive siblings. More memory (2GB or 4GB) and the ability to play
music as well as display photos.
Sporting a 1.5 inch color LCD screen and improved Li-ion battery, the Nano
will play up to 14 hours of music or a 4 hour slide show with music per charge.
At under $200 the 2GB Nano is relatively cheap as iPods go.
Save Money on iPods
Another way to save money on an iPod is to look for deals on refurbished
models. Savings of 20% to 40% are possible. More discounters, especially online
merchants, are jumping on the bandwagon and offering great deals on iPods and
other mp3 player brands.
While not iPods, some flash MP3
players are now priced below $50. Even some hard drive players have come down to the
$150 to $200 range. While prices are getting cheaper, features and quality are
improving, and a little comparison shopping can save a lot of money.
